I run microneedling as a skin integrity and collagen protocol — not vanity. Hawaii UV load at latitude 21°N accelerates dermal degradation. The Dr. Pen is the tool I've used consistently at home for 30+ sessions.

Depth Control

The adjustable depth dial is precise enough to differentiate 0.25mm (topical absorption) from 1.0mm (collagen induction) from 1.5mm (scar remodeling). I primarily work at 0.5–1.0mm on face and 1.5mm on scalp. Each session is dialed to the zone being treated.

Cartridge Quality

The 36-pin cartridge is the workhorse. Needle sharpness is consistent within a single cartridge — dullness onset around session 2–3 when reusing, so I follow the recommended single-use protocol. Replacement cartridges are cheap enough that reuse economics don't make sense.

Protocol Notes

Pre: numbing cream 30 minutes, clean surface. Post: hyaluronic acid immediately, no sunscreen for 4 hours. Downtime at 1.0mm is about 24 hours of mild redness. At 1.5mm, 48 hours. I pair with peptide application during the enhanced absorption window.
